Praised for his \u201clustrous tone\u201d (Musical America) and his \u201cfull tone, exacting articulation and interpretive intelligence\u201d (New York Classical Review), Italian flutist Giorgio Consolati is committed to presenting programs that span from masterworks of the flute repertoire to newly commissioned works, always striving to captivate and engage his audiences. His career highlights include performances at Carnegie Hall, New York\u2019s Alice Tully Hall, Philadelphia\u2019s Kimmel Center, Miami\u2019s New World Center, and the Beijing China Conservatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A passionate soloist, Giorgio has performed at David Geffen Hall with Alan Gilbert and the Juilliard Orchestra. He has also appeared with the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge and the Verdi Conservatory Orchestra in Milan, Italy. In addition to his solo appearances, he is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including third prize at the 9th De Lorenzo International Flute Competition, first prize at the Emanuele Krakamp Flute Competition, and first prize at the National Society of Arts and Letters Woodwind Competition. Giorgio is also a multiple time grant awardee of the Friends of Flutes Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giorgio is currently the principal flute of the York Symphony Orchestra (the Fred & Elizabeth Minnich Chair) and has performed with the Baltimore Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, and the Juilliard Orchestra. He has served as principal flutist in major concert halls under the batons of John Adams, Gianandrea Noseda, Peter Oundjian, David Robertson, and David Zinman. An avid chamber musician, Giorgio has performed for several years at the Marlboro Music Festival, and with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Detroit and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Dedicated to expanding the flute repertoire, he regularly collaborates with living composers and has premiered and recorded new works. While at Juilliard, he performed with AXIOM and the New Juilliard Ensemble, and he has also appeared at the Milano Musica contemporary music festival, where his performances were broadcast on Italy\u2019s premier classical radio station, Rai Radio 3. More recently, he took part in recording Neon and Oak<\/em>, an album featuring four world premieres by living composers. He previously released Tour De Flute<\/em>, his debut album, that features masterworks of the flute repertoire alongside contemporary works and a world-premiere recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an educator, Giorgio is the assistant to Marina Piccinini at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he also teaches flute minors and chamber music. He maintains a private studio in Baltimore and is on the summer faculty at the Chamber Music Conference and Composers Forum of the East. He has given masterclasses for the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, the Longy Conservatory of Bard College, the University of Maryland, the Pavia Conservatory in Italy, and the Beijing Central Conservatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A native of Milan, Giorgio is the first flutist in his hometown Conservatory\u2019s history to graduate with top honors and honorable mention. Giorgio studied with several of Italy\u2019s leading flutists including Davide Formisano, Paola Fre, Nicola Mazzanti, and Chiara Tonelli. As a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship, Giorgio earned both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Carol Wincenc. Giorgio is continuing his education with a Doctorate of Music degree under the guidance of Marina Piccinini at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he previously earned the prestigious Artist Diploma. When not blazing through the flute repertoire, Giorgio enjoys going to art exhibitions, traveling, and trying new cuisines!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
